The People Behind Bonita Farm

J. William Boniface

J. William “Bill” Boniface is General Manager of Bonita Farm has dedicated his life to Thoroughbred racing and to building one of Maryland’s most respected horse operations. A lifelong horseman, breeder, and trainer, he is best known for breeding and training Deputed Testamony, the Maryland-bred winner of the 1983 Preakness Stakes. His commitment to the horses and to the traditions of the sport established the foundation and enduring legacy of Bonita Farm.

Bill Boniface

Bill Boniface is a partner at Bonita Farm and manages the farm’s breeding division, helping continue the family’s long tradition of raising and developing Thoroughbreds. In addition to his work on the farm, he has served as President of the Harford County Council, reflecting his commitment to agriculture and the local community. He has also contributed to the industry through leadership roles with organizations including the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, the Maryland Horse Foundation that support Maryland’s Thoroughbred industry and farmland preservation.

Kevin Boniface

Kevin Boniface is a partner at Bonita Farm and head trainer of the farm’s racing division, overseeing the development and care of its Thoroughbred athletes both on the flat and over jumps. Known to his family as the “jack of all trades,” he is just as likely to be handling racetrack maintenance or facility upkeep as he is preparing horses for competition. Kevin also serves as an equine consultant for Pimlico Race Course, bringing his practical horsemanship and hands-on experience to one of racing’s most historic venues.

Chris Boniface

Chris Boniface has long been an integral part of the Bonita Farm team, working alongside her husband Kevin as an assistant trainer and exercise rider in the farm’s racing division. A lifelong horsewoman, she is also a whip with the local foxhunt and is deeply involved in retraining Thoroughbreds as they transition from racing to second careers. Through her horsemanship and dedication to the horses, Chris plays an important role in Bonita Farm’s commitment to care for Thoroughbreds both during and after their racing careers.

Michelle Boniface St. John

Michelle Boniface St. John grew up at Bonita Farm, where she spent her early years working as a groom and exercise rider and developing a lifelong connection to Thoroughbreds. She is now an award-winning television producer for 60 Minutes and co-founder of Paradocs Studios, bringing powerful storytelling to film and documentary projects. Michelle also remains closely connected to the horse community as President of Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship and a committee member of the Maryland Thoroughbred Partnerships, continuing the Bonita family’s tradition of supporting horses and the industry.

Billy Boniface

Billy Boniface was born and raised at Bonita Farm, where he grew up learning to care for the farm’s broodmares and foals under the guidance of his father.

Today, Billy is a Project Manager at a Maryland-based engineering firm, where he oversees complex infrastructure and development projects. He brings to Bonita Farm both a lifelong connection to the horses and valuable expertise in utilities, facilities planning, logistics, and site development, supporting the farm’s continued growth and long-term vision.

Ellen Boniface

Ellen Boniface contributes to the marketing and visitor engagement efforts at Bonita Farm. She supports the farm’s digital presence through social media, website development, and creative design, while also helping plan and execute special events that welcome guests to experience the farm firsthand.
